Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG)

DIPG, or Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, is a rare and aggressive brain tumor primarily found in children, typically occurring between the ages of 5 and 10. It develops in the brainstem, which controls vital bodily functions, making it particularly challenging to treat. Due to its infiltrative nature, complete surgical removal is not possible, and standard treatment includes radiation. Approximately 300 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with DIPG each year. While there is no cure for DIPG, new research offers promising treatment options.
